I’ve seen people say flats help with light pollution. NOT TRUE AT ALL. Flat frames allow you to calculate the correction factor for each pixel so they all give the same value when exposed to the same quantity of light for a given optical path. Things like dust motes, lens vignetting consistently reduce the light to a given pixel, flat frames allow you to mathematically remove them to give a smooth evenly illuminated image.
